FM Welcomes New Energy Services & Building Controls Director

FM recently announced the selection of Sean Wilder as our new Director of Energy Services & Building Controls, effective June 1, 2023.   Sean comes to FM from the County of Los Angeles where, as the Chief, EV Chargers and Energy Resiliency, he was responsible for Energy Management, Energy Programs and large-scale EV charger projects.   His duties required routine engagement with the Public Utilities Commission and local governments on policy and clean energy efforts, and facilitation of major infrastructure deployment with Southern California Edison and other utility companies and department executives.

Prior to his time with the County, Sean served as Chief Engineer, Energy Delivery for the Riverside Public Utilities, leading 75 electrical engineers and business analysts with a 10-year capital program budget of $250 million and responsibility for energy transmission and distribution, system and financial planning and substation engineering.    Prior to his service in Riverside, Sean was a Senior Manager for Southern California Edison leading a 25-member team and managing an annual capital budget of $650 million in maintaining and replacing a territory-wide inventory of 1.5 million power poles.  And prior to SoCal Edison, Sean served as a Civil Engineer for the City of Los Angeles, where he led 15 engineers and management analysts engaged in robust energy, water, streets and sanitation projects, as well as emergency bridge and structural inspection for earthquake response.

Sean is a Veteran who began his career by serving four years in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps managing utility construction operations in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa and highlighted by a 1-year assignment as Engineering Director for a large, US Department of State-led team providing infrastructure stabilization in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Sean holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from USC, a Master’s Degree in Quality Management from USC, an MBA in Strategy and Finance from USC, and a PhD, Doctor of Engineering Science (Engineering and System Management) from George Washington University.

In his leisure time, Sean enjoys CrossFit, spearfishing, mountaineering and scuba diving.
